Obesity and Hypertension: Cardiovascular Response to Weight Reduction

چکیده

There is a close epidemiological association between obesity and blood pressure for all age groups, although not every obese individual becomes hypertensive. In populations without agerelated increases in body weight, an elevation of blood pressure with age is not seen. Treatment of obesity by weight loss decreases blood pressure substantially; however, in a minority of patients blood pressure does not fall with weight loss. Blood pressure generally decreases before normal weight is achieved. Blood pressure after weight loss remains reduced as long as there is no marked regain of body weight. Salt intake reduction does not appear to explain why weight reduction lowers blood pressure. Reduced levels of plasma renin activity, serum aldosterone levels, catecholamine levels, and serum insulin levels may be involved in the blood pressure lowering associated with weight loss. Since the risk to the hypertensive patient is not only determined by the blood pressure, an overall treatment that aims at reduction of all risk factors is advocated. Some risk factors, e.g., glucose intolerance, may be normalized only when desirable weight is achieved. Thus, in any obese hypertensive patient with other risk factors, normalization of excess body weight appears to be the first and most important step of any rational therapeutic strategy. Obesity and Kidney Disease

The rise in the prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and an increase in the prevalence of obesity in parallel in the recent years is a great concern. CKD increases the rate of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and development of end-stage renal disease, and leads to premature death. Although no direct causality link between obesity and CKD can yet be established, this appears highly probable. ...

P-49: The Effects of Electro Acupuncture onBody Composition and Infertility in IranianObese and Overweight Women

Background: Obesity is linked to several health conditions, including cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes and infertility. Obesity results in an increased production of estrogen. Women who are overweight or obese are less likely to respond to fertility drugs, because excess weight interferes with the proper absorption of a variety of drugs used in infertility treatment. Electro acupu...

Serum Leptin concentration and some cardiovascular risk factors in response to aerobic exercise and weight loss diet in sedentary women

Introduction: Obesity is a complex disorder characterized by accumulation of excess adipose tissue. Discovery of the hormone Leptin is catalyzed the field of obesity research by demonstrating the existence of an afferent hormonal signal from adipose tissue to the central nervous system for regulation of body fat mass. The aim of this study was to assay serum Leptin concentration and some ...

Background: Little information is available on the trend in cardiovascular risk factors and hepatic enzymes in Iranian seafarers. The present study aimed to assess the pattern of obesity, hypertension, diabetes, elevated serum glutamic oxaloacetate transaminase (SGOT), and serum glutamate pyruvate transaminase (SGPT) in Iranian seafarers during 2010 to 2014. Methods: Data on cardiovascular r...
